C of I Cross         Patience is a virtue!         C of I Cross

Have you ever felt impatient? I know I have, perhaps on more than one occasion! I think back to my youth and looking forward to being 17 years old and being able to drive. And when that came and went the next thing I couldn’t wait until I took my driving test and was able to scoot about the country-side on my own! Nothing much has changed for me, even though the years have taken the edge off my impatience to some degree. If I am waiting for a significant letter I am on the phone to Naomi and asking if it has arrived or meeting the postman myself with eager anticipation. Perhaps you can identify with some of these feelings – or perhaps you have the patience of a saint as the saying goes. Society in general has become extremely impatient and everything must be done yesterday, even in parts of Fermanagh and Cavan!!
But I believe as Christians we must not allow the impatience which permeates much of secular life to overwhelm our sense that God is in control or blind us to the truth that His timing is perfect. It is certainly not easy for us to simply sit back and wait for something to happen – but is that really the same thing as relying on God to guide us in our journey in His time rather than our own? Well, as we consider the way in which we are to move Forward! as a Church I really don’t believe that God is going to operate us from Heaven in much the same way that a child would operate a remote controlled car. In such a scenario the car has no control over which direction it takes, the course is completely and utterly determined by the operator of the remote control. Likewise for us in our Christian journey together as God’s Church, we should not simply sit back and wait for things to happen but rather roll up our sleeves in prayer, in a manner of speaking, and in so doing seek the will of God for our Church and move Forward! In doing so we will be trusting that God is with us through His Holy Spirit and that He is in control. As I write these notes the words of the beautiful worship song Jesus, all for Jesus come to mind;
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into your hands.
Ambitions, hopes and plans surrendered into the hands of the one who should be Lord of our lives. What better place to leave all that we desire for our lives and our Church.
As we surrender all that we have into His hands, let us also pray for patience as we move Forward! Let us truly put Jesus at the head of our Church as Scripture testifies to and move Forward! together in faith and with patience trusting that The Lord of our lives will guide us into greener pastures in His perfect time.

Thanks from me to you!
For attending so faithfully each of our Lenten and Holy Week services. I have received nothing but positive comments in relation to these services, especially the series of sermons delivered by Rev’d Canon Reggie Twaddell during Holy Week. Reggie really touched many of our hearts with his words and we can look forward to hearing from Reggie once again as he has kindly agreed to preach at my ordination to the presbyterate in St Peter’s, Templeport on Sunday 19th June at 4.00.

MU matters
The closing service of the MU will take place in Tomregan Parish Church on Tuesday 19th April 2005 with a celebration of the Holy Communion at 8.00 pm. The work of the MU does matter – they are not simply a group of ladies who make sandwiches and tray bakes as required, though there is always a cup of tea as part of their monthly fellowship meetings. MU is however concerned with upholding Christian values in marriage and strengthening and supporting these values in family life in the 21st Century. They also support education and health initiatives through overseas projects. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has attended group meetings this past season and particularly our group leader Vi Breen. Vi has exercised excellent leadership skills in terms of overseeing our group MU as it has moved into a new stage of its existence.
Also Vi is organising a coach party to travel to the Diocesan Service of the Mothers’ Union which is being held in Taunagh Parish Church, Riverstown on Thursday 5th May 2005. Anyone interested in travelling should contact Vi on 028 6774 8292.

Wedding bells
Were ringing in Drumeela Church on Saturday 16th April 2005 for Nigel Breiden and his new bride Margaret Kiernan. It was a joyous occasion for both families and a delight to take part in. We wish Nigel and Margaret every blessing in their new lives together and look forward to seeing them once again upon their return from honeymoon in Tenerife.

Acknowledgement of faithful service
The Annual General Vestry Meeting of St Peter’s, Templeport saw the retirement of Mrs Madeline Hewson from the office of Parish Treasurer after almost 24 years faithful service. The occasion was marked with a presentation of gifts and flowers, on behalf of the people, by the outgoing People’s Churchwarden Mrs Irene Kells. Irene thanked Madeline warmly for her commitment and dedication to the task during what were at times difficult years. Madeline, we wish both you and Rhynn a long and well earned retirement from this office and are so grateful to you for your faithful service down through the years.

Knockninny Junior CE Parents and Friends Night
A parents and friends night will take place in Knockninny Methodist Church with a message being brought by Mrs Judith Rainey. Diocesan Forward! service                                 Forward!
This will take place on Sunday 12th June at 3.00 pm in the Slieve Russell Hotel, which is located in Tomregan Parish. As the service is being conducted in our own group, there will be no services in any of our Parish Churches that day. This will be a huge celebration when the Diocesan family gather in our group to give thanks for Forward! and to recognise that we are family. Please make a very special effort to attend this service.
And the following Sunday, the 19th of June would normally be our united service, however there is the small matter of an ordination to consider that day! Due to this there will be no service within our group that day other than the service of ordination at 4.00 pm in St Peter’s, Templeport.

And now, some humour

As Easter Vestries draw to a close, remember the Chairperson who tried again and again to get the speaker to stop talking and sit down. In exasperation he lifted his mallet in order to hit the table. As he did so, he hit the head of a man who was dozing beside him. As he began to apologise to the man, the man said, “Never mind, hit me again; I can still hear him”!

And then there was the man who was so tight that he squeaked when he walked. He thought that he would give his wife a treat on their wedding anniversary and approached the Pilot of a little single engine aircraft who advertised scenic flights in a local paper. Upon hearing that the cost was £20 he protested saying, “That’s too expensive; I wouldn’t pay that”. The pilot replied, “I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll take you and your wife up. If you don’t call out or shout, I’ll not charge you anything. Of course, if you do call out or shout, then you pay up”. Of course the miserable fellow jumped at the chance of something for free. The pilot was a bit of a joker and he did everything he could to scare the man. He somersaulted over and over again and not a sound. He looped the loop, and still not a sound came from the man. Eventually when they landed the pilot said to the man, “Well, you earned your free ride. I felt sure you would yell out when I did some of those manoeuvres”. The man replied, “To tell you the truth, I nearly did shout out when the wife fell out of the plane”!

   Prayer points for April . May

Prayer points for March / April
Prayer matters in the life of a Christian. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective (Jam 5: 16). Please pray for the following on the day of the week indicated;

Monday For peace in those parts of the world which know nothing only warfare and killing;
Tuesday For a continuing sense of the Resurrection Spirit amongst us as we prepare to move Forward!;
Wednesday For the sick, whether at home or in hospital; that they would know God’s healing touch and presence in their lives;
Thursday For the elderly and house-bound in our group; that they would feel of real worth in our Church family;
Friday And we continue to pray for our young people as they prepare for forthcoming examinations; that they might have focussed thoughts and minds;
Saturday For all road-users as we hear daily of lives lost on our roads; that drivers would have a due sense of consideration for other road-users;
Sunday For our group as we prepare to move Forward! through the Diocesan initiative – pray that there would be a good response throughout the group.
