Christ is Risen!

The journey from Good Friday to Easter morning must have seemed like an eternity for those first disciples. They had such hopes and dreams….and it all seemed to be fulfilled in their Lord. But how could they now make sense of their Messiah being humiliated and crucified like a common criminal – it just didn’t make any sense to them in the midst of their grief. And so, as we often do in the midst of hurt and confusion, they reverted to what they knew and understood and bought spices and made their way to anoint the body of The Lord. The mood of Mary Magdalene and the other Mary must have been quiet, sombre and reflective on what might have been. I don’t believe that it would be going too far to say that they may have felt a darkness and depression in their hearts – but don’t we all feel that way at different times in our lives. They made their way to the tomb with a particular expectation and were amazed as the angel said to them;
Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. (Mt 28: 5b & 6a ESV)
The mood of the women changed considerably as they recalled the words and promises of our Lord of what sort of death He must endure, but that the Temple would be rebuilt in three days. They no longer had heads hung low and lead in their feet as we are told;

The women, deep in wonder and full of joy, lost no time in leaving the tomb. They ran to tell the disciples.” (Mt 28: 8 The Message)
What a difference it made to the women to be reminded of the words of Jesus which spoke of these things – words which should have prepared them and forewarned them of things to come.
It would be easy to criticise the women, but the truth of the matter is that we can all lose sight of the glorious truth that Jesus conquered the power of death and sin through His death and Resurrection. You would be in good company if you ever lost sight of that truth and got stuck at the Cross without being able to find your way to the empty tomb..
The story is told that the reformer Martin Luther once spent three days in a black depression over something that had gone wrong. On the third day his wife came downstairs dressed in mourning clothes. "Who's dead?" he asked her. "God," she replied. Luther rebuked her, saying, "What do you mean, God is dead? God cannot die." "Well," she replied, "the way you've been acting I was sure He had!"
Life can be very tough at times - God knows just how brutal the cross was. But the Good News is that in each circumstance we face, we do so in the knowledge that Christ is Risen! Our cry must be The Lord is Risen indeed. Hallelujah!
May we all know His risen power with us this Easter time, and may we face each day in the knowledge of that truth.

A Security Warning for all car owners

At a recent event in our Church at Ballyconnell, a vehicle was broken into and a quantity of money stolen. Every possible precaution was taken by the vehicle owner to ensure that nothing was left in sight which might act as a temptation to passing pedestrians, something which I am personally not always good at doing myself. This incident happened because someone must have been watching very carefully and not due to carelessness. I would therefore advise all folk coming to services not to bring valuables with you if at all possible and to be vigilant regarding who is around and what they are getting up to. We do hope and pray that this was an isolated incident at our Church, but it does raise the whole issue of personal security in the community. But please do not become paranoid regarding strangers in our midst – it would be an awful thing if we became so suspicious of people that an un-welcoming attitude developed in our church.

Bible Club

Bible Study         Holy Bible

I would like to thank everyone involved in our Bible Club at Ballyconnell this past month. Anyone who called at the hall at any stage would agree with me that the kids had a brilliant time, even though the numbers were a little disappointing. One thing which really did encourage me was that we had so many young leaders who were prepared to step up to the mark and take part in the leadership of this club. This bodes well for the future in our Group and is something which I will be hoping to build upon. Thank you all once again.

Noah in 2007!

In the year 2007, the Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in Ireland and said, "Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me.
Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing along with a few good humans."
He gave Noah the CAD drawings, saying, "You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."
Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard - but no Ark.
"Noah!" He roared, "I'm about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?"
"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed. I needed Building Regulations Approval. I've been arguing with the Fire Brigade about the need for a sprinkler system. My neighbors claim that I should have obtained planning permission for building the Ark in my garden because it is development of the site even though in my view it is a temporary structure. We had to go to appeal to the Secretary of State for a decision.
Then the Department of Transport demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark's move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it.
Getting the wood was another problem. All the decent trees have Tree Preservation Orders on them and we live in a Site of Special Scientific Interest set up in order to protect the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!
When I started gathering the animals, the RSPCA sued me. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodation was too restrictive, and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space.
Then the County Council, the Environment Agency and the Rivers Authority ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.
I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Equal Opportunities Commission on how many BMEs I'm supposed to hire for my building team.
The trades unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only CFMEU accredited workers with Ark-building experience.
To make matters worse, Customs and Excise seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species.
So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this Ark."
Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow stretched across the sky. Noah looked up in wonder and asked, "You mean you're not going to destroy the world?"
"No," said the Lord. "The government beat me to it."

Our Greatest Need
"If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator.
If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist.
If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist.
If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer.
But our greatest need was forgiveness, So God sent us a Saviour!"
Chuck Swindoll, The Grace Awakening
