A Grand Day Out! Swanlinbar Parish's coach trip to the Ulster Folk and Transport museum proved to be a great day. Even the weather was dry and pleasant though raining back here! While a few shopped in Bangor most folk went exploring the museum and the Titanic exhibition. A major point of interest of course proved to be the Harry Ferguson Tractors exhibited in action on the fields. The men were all very interested in watching the now very humble little Ferguson tractors working and displaying how things used to be done. The day concluded with a sumptuous meal in the Viscount Restaurant, Dungannon. Our sincere thanks to Steven and Jenny Crawford who organised such a successful outing. |

Summer Madness It was great to see four of our young people travel with the diocesan youth group to this year’s Summer Madness festival. This was held on the Glenarm Estate outside Larne on the north coast. They joined two thousand two hundred young people and leaders camping over four days of fun with wonderful opportunities to make friends and discover more of God’s love. I would like to thank the leaders who have helped with diocesan trips to Summer Madness over a few years. Their experience and expertise showed! The Summer Madness festival has now been running 26 years and has touched the lives of thousands of young people. I would really encourage us to see if a larger group could go from our group next year. If we are serious in our desire to see our young people growing in their life of faith and in the family of our churches we have to make the most of these wonderful and God blessed events. |

Diocesan Forward Day in the Slieve Russell In the afternoon of Sunday 16th Septemberat 3 pm Bishop Ken will be leading a special get together of the whole diocese. As the Slieve Russell lies near the centre of our group we will have no services in the morning but would encourage everyone to come along and support
It is hoped to have a Diocesan choir leading the singing on Forward Sunday and to have as many Parishes in the Diocese represented within this choir. Dean Raymond Ferguson has arranged some practice dates so that the choir can be well rehearsed. |

Use Your Gifts! |
Mothers Union members attended the Diocesan Festival Service in Billis Church. The special speaker was Mrs Patsy Devoy, Faith and Policy Unit who spoke on the theme of MU for this year, Your Gift - Discover and Celebrate. She challenged everyone to find their own particular gift, very different for each individual member, and to use it for God's glory. Tea was served afterwards in the local Community Centre at which a cake was cut to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Mothers' Union in Ireland. The Senior members tea party was held in Kilmore Hall and was attended by over 50 members. Bishop Ken Clarke conducted a service of Holy Communion and gave a short address to members and friends. The Diocesan President, Joy Little and the Bishop then circulated among the members during the tea and many friendships were renewed. |

Newtowngore Community Hall We are delighted to be able to share that the Leitrim Leader Grant has been given the green light after heritage queries were finally sorted out. This will enable the main hall to be extended and heating to be replaced as well as a renewing of the outside of the present hall. Templeport Thank You!
May we take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported the special thanksgiving service in memory of Rhynn and Madeline Hewson. Both Rhynn and Madeline were very active and generous supporters of Templeport Parish and the wider community. We thank the Hewson family for their very generous gifts of a complete set of Communion linen, also green and red Communion table frontals and pulpit and lectern falls. These gifts greatly enhance our Church. Templeport Vestry also marked this special day with the gift of a stone seat in the graveyard in memory and thanksgiving for the lives of Ryhnn and Madeline. | |

Time for a Smile! The pensioner went to the doctor with a pain in her left leg. “It’s terribly sore, doctor” she explained to him, “It even keeps me awake at night. The doctor examined her carefully then shook his head sadly. “I’m sorry Maggie” he said, “but there isn’t anything I can do, it’s just old age” A policeman was standing outside the village post office one day when an elderly lady asked him to help her to cross the road as traffic was heavy. He smiled at her and said “There’s a zebra crossing just a little way further on.”. “Oh Well” retorted the pensioner, “I hope he has better luck than me!” A mother told her young daughter that if she didn’t eat her carrots she wouldn’t see in the dark. “That’s alright mum” the six year old replied, “That’s what light bulbs are for!” Teacher: “Why are you doing your multiplication sums on the floor?” |
