Sadness and Joy
It was with great sadness that we said farewell to Rhynn Hewson. Rhynn was a well loved parishioner of Templeport who gave much of his time and energy to parish life. Rhynn had been unwell for some while and will be missed greatly by parishioners and his family. In the midst of the grief we especially remember Rhynn's wife Madeline who has also been unwell for some time.
The Hewson family became bearers of joy when Ivan & Lorna Hewson rejoiced in the birth of twins who were borne on Tuesday 23rd February. Both are doing great and we pray for the whole family in the time of huge change.
There was also sadness and joy remembering the life of Mary Jane (Cissy) McCaffrey. A parishioner of St Macartin’s Cathedral Enniskillen, Cissy died in her 107th year! The funeral service took place in Kinawley. |
Confirmation
Please pencil 16th May 3pm in your diary. On this day the Bishop will be coming to lead a confirmation service in our group. Please also pray for 9 young people who are presently exploring confirmation. It is a huge decision and one we cannot take too lightly. .

Coffee Morning and Cake Sale
A cake sale and coffee morning is to be held in Tomregan hall on Saturday 27th March from 10am - 1pm. All proceeds will go towards Forward funds which help to run special events such as the Sunday school prize giving, Barbeque and the Senior’s Christmas dinner. This is a whole group event in which we can each play a small part. Please come along and support this fun morning. Particular help is required with baking cakes!
Please bake as you feel able. Coffee and chocolate cakes, sponge cakes, carrot cakes all go down a treat at an event such as this while bread - soda bread, wheaten bread also go down very well. Obviously the more cakes we have the more we can sell. Please bring cakes for sale to Ballyconnell hall on the Friday evening from 2pm. If you are not a baker please still come along and support the morning if you possibly can. Your willingness and generosity are really appreciated. . |

The Road to Emmaus Easter Egg Hunt |
To be announced |
I am sorry that not every parish will receive a service of Holy Communion on Easter Sunday. I trust and pray that you will understand we are limited in what we are able to arrange during this time of vacancy. Building on the joy of Easter last year we will have our Easter Sunrise service again on Easter day. We will also have services that will be suitable for all ages on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. It is so important that people of all ages share in the Easter message.
On Easter Sunday we will again have an Easter egg hunt while celebrating the wonderful discovery on the Road to Emmaus from Jerusalem.
* 1st April, more details to be published later. Please check latest Newssheet. |

Nonagenarian celebrates Birthday
It was with great joy that Rosetta Arnold celebrated her 90th birthday on 18th February with numerous friends and almost all her family around including her sons and daughter from Canada. The celebrations went on for a week and culminated when 8 members of the ICA visited and spent a pleasant evening .
The photo taken at her birthday party in Lough Bawn Hotel, Killeshandra shows Rosetta with her birthday cake. (You may just be able to make out the candle figures ‘90’ in reverse)
It is a grand age and we praise God for Rosetta.
(Dictionary:- Nonagenarian n. person from 90 to 99 years old. [Latin nonageni ninety each]) |

'Inside Out'
It's often said that there is little for young adults in the church. Can I therefore draw you attention to this wonderful opportunity organised by Mike Edwards on behalf of the diocese. If you are 18 to say 35 don't t miss this wonderful opportunity. This is a weekend for young adults (no connection with youth work is necessary!) Where: Jackson ’s Hotel, Ballybofey, Co Donegal When: Friday 16th – Sunday 18th April 2010. Enjoy a time of fellowship, relaxation and fun. People arrive Friday evening when they can. Saturday after breakfast we have a time together with input from Revd Adrian McCartney. There is a light lunch then free time to enjoy the Leisure Centre, explore the Donegal countryside or retail therapy in the town! After a 3 course dinner we will have another meeting with Adrian before socializing in the Hotel. Sunday morning we will have our final time together, finishing off with a humongous carvery lunch. Come along and meet friends or make friends, enjoy fellowship and spoil yourself! Cost: FREE! (We ask for a €25 deposit refundable on attendance). Please book by 31st March 2010. Please speak to Richard or contact Mike Edwards direct on 0861728648.
Swanlinbar Parish Quiz
This is a fundraising quiz in aid of funds for the heating system to be installed in the hall in Swanlinbar. Alice Gould is the quizmaster and sheets can be obtained from her for £1 or €1.50 per sheet. They need to be returned by 24th April for checking. A little challenge to get the grey cells working. |
Hot Cross Buns
'Hot Cross Buns' is an English nursery rhyme, but was originally a street vendors' Easter song and street cry referring to the spiced English bun associated with Good Friday:
Hot cross buns,
Hot cross buns,
one ha' penny,
two ha' penny,
hot cross buns.

If you have no daughters,
give them to your sons,

Hot Cross Buns Recipe
Description
Traditional spiced, sticky glazed fruit buns with pastry crosses. Served as a classic Easter treat, the buns can also be enjoyed at any time of year.
Ingredients
For the buns
625g/1.3lb strong white flour, plus extra for dusting
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ground mixed spice
45g/ 1.5 oz unsalted butter, cut into cubes, plus extra for greasing
85g/3oz sugar
1 lemon, zest only
1½ tsp fast-action yeast
1 free-range egg
275ml/10fl oz tepid milk
125g/4oz mixed dried fruit
For the topping
2 tbsp plain flour
vegetable oil, for greasing
1 tbsp golden syrup, gently heated, for glazing.
|
|
Method
1. For the buns, sieve the flour, salt and ground mixed spice into a large mixing bowl, then rub in the butter using your fingertips. Make a well in the centre of the mixture, then add the sugar and lemon zest and yeast.
2. Beat the egg and add to the flour with the tepid milk. Mix together to a form a soft, pliable dough.
3. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface. Carefully work the mixed dried fruit into the dough until well combined. Knead lightly for 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
4. Grease a large, warm mixing bowl with butter. Shape the dough into a ball and place it into the prepared bowl, then cover with a clean tea towel and set aside in a warm place for one hour to prove.
5. Turn out the proved dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knock back the dough. Shape it into a ball again and return it to the bowl, then cover again with the tea towel and set aside for a further 30 minutes to rise.
6. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten slightly into a bun shape using the palms of your hands. Cover the buns again with the tea towel and set aside to rest for 5-10 minutes.
7. Grease a baking tray with butter and transfer the buns to the tray. Wrap the tray with the buns on it loosely in greaseproof paper, then place inside a large polythene bag. Tie the end of the bag tightly so that no air can get in and set aside in a warm place for a further 40 minutes to rise.
8. Preheat the oven to 240C/475F/Gas 8.
9. Meanwhile, for the topping, mix the plain flour to a smooth paste with 2 tablespoons of cold water.
10. When the buns have risen, remove the polythene bag and the greaseproof paper. Spoon the flour mixture into a piping bag and pipe a cross on each bun.
11. Transfer the buns to the oven and bake for 8-12 minutes, or until pale golden-brown. As soon as you remove the buns from the oven, brush them with the hot golden syrup, then set aside to cool on a wire rack.
Makes 12 buns. Preparation time over 2 hours. Cooking time 10 to 30 minutes.
